Match Report | Shildon (A)

Updated: Oct 14, 2023

Northallerton made their first away trip of the season on Tuesday night to face recently relegated Shildon at the J Denham Metals Stadium.

Shildon had started well on their return to Northern League Division One football securing a 3-1 win against West Allotment Celtic on the opening day.

First Half

It was a half to forget for Town with the hosts coming out of the blocks with a purpose and duly taking the lead within 2 minutes.

Luke Spalding who was dangerous all night whipped in a cross which was only headed out as far as Thomas Price who saw his volleyed effort fly past Fairless.

Before Town could really settle they would be 2-0 down within the opening 10 minutes. Andrei-Vasile Ardelean would grab his first of the evening, picking up on an error in the Town defence to slot home.

An early change for the hosts which saw ex-Darlington midfielder, David Atkinson go off with a suspected injury didn't hamper the host's attitude as on 19 minutes played they would extend the lead further.

Ardelean would grab his second goal of the game and this would lead to Eddie making a bold decision and replacing both centre-halves on the 20-minute mark.

New signings, Ryan Foster and James Stanger would be replaced by Jamie Davis and Ste Roberts.

Despite the new look defence looking more resolute Town would concede yet another goal and it was Ardelean again with a free header to grab his hat-trick.

Town would start to gain some composure and have spells with the ball but the damage was done by this point.

HT - Shildon 4 - 0 Northallerton Town

Second Half

Town came out looking like a different side in the second period, keeping possession for long spells and looking to make something happen going forward.

However, the Shildon defence was resolute and chances were at a minimum with the home 'keeper Mark Foden rarely tested.

The introduction of Ben Jackson, Scott Ryan and Simmi Tchabo Tchounga offered different options for Town but there would still be no clear opportunities at goal and the game ended as it was after the hour-half mark.
