Match Report | Guisborough

There was little festive cheer for Town at the King George V Ground on Boxing Day, as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Guisborough.

In front of a bumper holiday crowd of 424, the visitors were unable to prevent the Priorymen from moving back into the top 10 and faced an uphill battle when they were reduced to 10 men halfway through the second half.

First Half

Town more than matched their hosts during the opening 15-20 minutes but Guisborough stepped up the pressure and Jordan Fielding would have the game's first on target just after the 20-minute mark, with Ben Fairless more than equal to make the save.

There was a let-off for Town minutes later as ex-Town man, Sonni Coleman shot wide when it was perhaps easier to score.

The deadlock was broken around 5 minutes from time after Jordan Fielding was adjudged to have been felled in the area. Callum Martin duly dispatched the resulting spot kick sending Fairless the wrong way.

Second Half

Town started the second half determined to erase the deficit. Dale Hopson looked to be straight through on goal two minutes after the break only for the referee to bring back play for a handball.

The Priorymen doubled their advantage just under 10 minutes into the second half when a smart one-two between Fielding and Kurtis Howes saw the latter fire a low cross across the face of goal giving Sonni Coleman a simple touch and finish.

A defensive error saw Howes through on goal, but Fairless did well to save. The danger signals were all too apparent, however, and Guisborough would put the contest out of reach minutes later.

Charlie Graham was given a second yellow card in conceding a second penalty, with Callum Martin repeating his spot-kick heroics to give his side a three-goal lead.

It was always going to be tough for Town with 10 men, and they had Fairless to thank for making a fantastic save to deny substitute Joe Pickett in the dying minutes as the Priorymen went in search of another goal.
