The 21-year-old right-back came first in many of Northallerton's tough pre-season running drills and will be a match for the speediest wingers this season.

Sam is another gem unearthed from the club's open training session last month and has impressed with his athleticism on the right flank in warm-up matches.

"I saw the trials invitation on social media and thought I would give it a go," he says. "I'm delighted the manager has given me this chance and I'm looking forward to playing in the Northern League for the first time."

Sam was a member of the Shrewsbury Town Academy before joining the Army and playing for their U-23s. He recently moved up to the Northallerton area and is determined to make the most of his opportunity with Town.

Manager Jamie Poole says: "Sam is another who attended the trials. He’s come in and shown great fitness levels and attitude and I think he will be a good addition to the squad."
