Now Liam's Back at Town

Now Liam's Back at Town

Graham Bell29 May - 14:39

Our incredible week of arrivals continues with the return of Liam Darville to Northallerton Town.

Liam is one of the most influential players to represent us in recent years and wore the captain's armband with distinction until his departure for Crook Town in early January. After joining us from Richmond Town in summer 2024, he became Northallerton's warrior leader whose never-say-day attitude rubbed off on his team-mates.

Like other players returning to the club this summer, he has bought into new manager Jamie Poole's plans to redevelop the squad and transform Northallerton's fortunes.

"I spoke to Jamie at length and I just love he way he wants his team to play football," says the midfielder. "This is a complete clean slate for everyone at the club.

"It wouldn't surprise me if other clubs believe Northallerton will be an easy three points next season because of everything that happened last year. That is a fantastic position for us to be in because I genuinely believe we can cause a few shocks.

"When you look at the quality of Northallerton's signings, we have the makings of a really good squad that can make the most of our First Division reprieve. This is a golden opportunity for us to make a statement.

"With teams like Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe coming down, it will be a tough league next season and we need to get back to where we were the year before last when other teams hated playing against us. We've got to turn the Calvert Stadium into a fortress again.

"Jamie has his targets and there's no reason why we can't achieve them. After everything that when on last season, we need stability.

"The new manager has been around a long time and he likes his teams to get the ball down and play - that's exactly the way I see the game. I've had offers from other clubs but I'm excited about playing with a great group of people at a good club that is close to my home, so it's a no-brainer to come back to Northallerton.

"I can't wait for the season to start."

Liam was out for more than three months last season after suffering a knee injury, but after a second scan he was given the all-clear to continue playing. He is keeping fit in the close season by playing for Richmond Over-35s.

Manager Jamie says: "Everyone knows Liam and we all know what he brings to Town. I'm delighted we have got him back and he will play a big part for us to move forward.

"With his hard work, quality and leadership, this is a massive signing for the club."
