Huntington 3 Northallerton 5

Northallerton were back in North Riding Women’s Premier League action today, making the trip to Huntington.

Town were ahead inside the first 60 secs a great ball by Hannah Bowe into the path of Katie Boynton who fired home, 1-0 Town, great start.
4 minutes later Town gave away a free kick in a dangerous area and failed to deal with the ball into box, 1-1.

Town asked questions of Huntington defence for the next 25 mins, some great passages of play, testing the tall GK on 33 mins, Hannah Stephenson sent Hannah Bowe through on goal, a left foot strike rebounded off the post for Bowe to finish with her right into the opposite corner. 2-1 Town.

5 mins later Town afforded the Huntington midfield too much time on the ball, a pass that cut the Town defence open and the hosts were level again 2-2.

A few positional adjustments and just before HT Lauren Howard put Boynton through, a burst of speed and display of strength had the young striker 1v1 with the GK, she calmly slotted home to restore the lead going into the break, 3-2 Town.

Second half Town started as they finished, great build up play, Amy Ross and Ruth Jeal a real handful on the wing, the back 4 were impenetrable, chance after chance came for Stephenson, Boynton, Bowe, Ross and Jeal.

With 20 mins left the ever dangerous paring of Stephenson and Bowe combined, Bowe the provider for Stephenson who got a well deserved goal for her efforts, 4-2 Town.

Huntington had barely kicked off before the dynamic duo had teamed up for another, almost a carbon copy of the first killer pass, Stephenson in on goal and picked her spot, 5-2 Town.
Jess Pattison returned to Centre Mid and dealt with the Huntington playmaker for the final 20 mins, smothering any attempt to get the hosts another resurgence.

The final quarter of the match saw Stephenson & Boynton come frustratingly close to their Hat-trick time and time again with all 9 of their Town teammates creating copious opportunities.

11 minutes from time Huntington got a consolation against the run of play, a very well placed cross was headed home from close range after the Town defence were caught out of position.

A greatly deserved 3 points, a big thanks to Huntington who always create a fantastic atmosphere and environment for women’s football.

Managers Player this week was shared between Katie Boynton and Hannah Stephenson, a brace a piece, both equally dangerous terrorising the Huntington back line, demonstrating the intensity and attitude to get us over the line this afternoon.

Katie is sponsored by James Lofthouse Football.
Hannah is sponsored by LLF Turf & Amenity and Corr Plumbing & Heating.
