Deano Is Our New Manager

Deano Is Our New Manager

Graham Bell12 Nov 2025 - 12:39

Deano Browne has today been appointed as the new manager of Northallerton Town men's first team.

Deano, 38, has extensive experience of coaching and managing in the Northern League and his previous clubs include Newton Aycliffe, Thornaby and Crook.

He became one of the youngest non-league managers in the country when he took charge of Norton & Stockton Ancients at the age of 25 and holds a UEFA B coaching licence.

Carl Boyce, who coached at Shildon alongside Deano and holds similar qualifications, joins as assistant manager and two former Northallerton players are also rejoining the club – ex-captain Gavin Parkin will be head coach and centre-back Dale Elgie becomes player-coach.

Interim manager Matty Calvert will remain in charge for tonight’s Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup tie at Horden CW, with Deano taking an observer role before his first league game as boss at old club Crook on Saturday.

“I’m thrilled to join Northallerton and can’t wait to get going,” says Deano, who is based in Darlington and manages the Future Pathways agency for children with complex social and emotional needs.

“I’m well aware of Northallerton’s league position but I wouldn’t have come here if I didn’t feel I could improve the team’s fortunes. I can see the current side has quality and it contains several local lads who clearly care about the club.

“I plan to make one or two additions but I’m not looking at a drastic overhaul. Everyone in the dressing-room will get the chance to show me what they can do.

“It’s only right that Matty continues to select the side and tactics for tonight’s game at Horden. He’s done a terrific job over the last few weeks and has put in a lot of hard work.

“My plan is to introduce myself to the players after the final whistle.”

Asked about the style he likes his teams to play, Deano said: “I want my players to create a positive atmosphere around the ground with a brand of fast, attacking football the fans will enjoy watching.”

Chairman Jason Bleanch added: “Deano ticks all the boxes for what we are looking for in a new manager and I’m really excited about where he can take the team.

“He’s got very good contacts in this league and has managerial and coaching experience at several clubs. I hope the fans really get behind Deano as we build for the future.”
